In 2018, after losing her leg to sarcoma, Jenn Andrews made it her mission to raise awareness for cancer research and help fellow amputees regain their active independence. Through the Move for Jenn Foundation, her mission is to offer grants to sarcoma researchers and those who have suffered the loss of a limb to sarcoma and other affiliated diseases. The foundation’s goal is to raise awareness and assist amputees in obtaining activewear prosthetics to help regain their strength and mobility faster.

Jacob Poteat, a 20-year-old firefighter from North Carolina, is the first recipient of the Move for Jenn Foundation grant. In April 2018 he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and a month later underwent a below-knee amputation. After 6 energy expending months of chemotherapy, Jacob sadly lost his job and insurance due to no longer being physically strong enough to meet the high demands of his job. Shortly after finishing his course of chemotherapy however, Jacob started to regain his strength and was hired back by the fire department.

In December 2018 and in partnership with Hanger Clinic, Jacob was gifted a brand new Endolite BladeXT running blade complete with a fully outfitted socket, a gift that will help him continue his work in the line of duty. Jacob explained “I have to climb stuff, have to crawl. I have to do all kinds of stuff. I think that this will give me a way bigger advantage than what I’ve currently got.”

Jenn added, “prosthetics is different, not everything is waterproof, not every foot has the same spring so in order to get out and be active you need a blade.” Talking about Jacob’s reaction to receiving the blade, Jenn explained “he was so genuine, and he was so excited. It was probably one of the highlights of my year. Being able to help people gives me purpose.”

Endolite is proud to have collaborated with the Move for Jenn Foundation and Hanger Clinic to make a significant and positive impact of the life and well-being of Jacob. We look forward to following Jacob’s future endeavors.
